2010, Social Science and MedicineCitation Excerpt :While the question of how to improve medical practices is high up on the research and policy agenda in France (HCAAM, 2007), it is agreed that prior to choose the appropriate incentives to improve practices, one needs to measure and identify sources of heterogeneity in medical practices (Wennberg, 2004). Several reviews or synthesis are now available on this topic (Anderson & Mooney, 1990; Casparie, 1996; de Jong, 2008). The theoretical literature first explains that MPV is consubstantial to the nature of the medical decision-making process.
