2020, BurnsCitation Excerpt :Along the time, limitations of the CCI score has been reported including coding errors (relying on ICD-9 codes), unclear definition of comorbidity at admission or a complication occurring during treatment, incomplete medical histories. In addition, it was claimed that this scale was only taken into account for conditions in a narrowly defined clinical population of fewer than 600 patients [5,6]. The Elixhauser comorbidity scale which was introduced by Elixhauser et al. in 1988 and then modified by Wlaraven et al. in 2009 to overcome limitation of CCI scale and added more comorbidities to the Charlson list and drops several conditions not relating to outcomes or not practically appropriate.
