Patients were primarily referred from the Resident Continuity Clinics within the Department of Internal Medicine. While in Women's Preventive Health Clinic, the patient was seen by one of the residents who used a standard electronic template within the Epic electronic medical record to obtain a comprehensive history and perform a physical exam. The visit focused on the following: osteoporosis screening, colon cancer screening, cardiovascular disease risk factors, breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, screening for depression and domestic violence. All breast and pelvic exams, along with Pap smears, were performed by the resident, and supervised by one of the three attending physicians. The resident followed up all studies, specimens or blood work obtained during Clinic, and if needed, patients were asked to return for a second visit to discuss abnormal results. The primary care physician was also contacted for future follow-up. |
