HOMEOPATHY AND RHEUMATIC DISEASE
Section snippets
METHODS
All published reports of controlled clinical trials of homeopathy on arthritis and MS disease were collected from our meta-analysis review of homeopathy trials previously published.21 Details of the methods are described in that report and are only summarized here. Multiple data sources, including previous reviews, on-line data searches, contact with those in the homeopathic community, individual collections, books, and references to all of these data sources were used. Reports published in all
RESULTS
Initially (and in our previously published meta-analysis21), the analysis included seven trials. On more detailed examination and after contact with the authors of two studies, it was discovered that two of the largest and highest quality studies on a complex homeopathic formula for RA involved dual reports derived from the same set of patients. We therefore excluded the less detailed report of this study from our review. This left a total of six controlled trials (involving 392 patients) that
DISCUSSION
The current number of controlled clinical trials on the treatment of rheumatic syndromes with homeopathy is few, and results are mixed as to efficacy. Overall, it appears that homeopathic remedies work better than a placebo in studies of rheumatic syndromes, but there are too few studies to make definitive conclusions about the efficacy of any one type of homeopathic treatment on any one condition. RA has been the most studied condition, with a total of 266 patients in three studies. ORs hover

2018, Revue d'HomeopathieCitation Excerpt :Three general journals [4,9,49] analyse four randomised controlled trials and a non-randomised controlled trial comparing the effect of homeopathy to placebo in rheumatoid arthritis on a total of 573 patients. The NHMRC does not analyse the meta-analysis carried out on four good quality trials [out of six analysed] [50]. It is positive in favour of homeopathy [OR 2, 11; CI 1, 32-3, 35]1, but the authors have reservations about the quality of the trials.
